The calculation
How this estimate works
The selected date becomes a numbered cycle day. Estimated ovulation is placed about 14 days before the next predicted period; days after it are shown as the luteal phase.
Bleeding days are shown separately using your usual period length. The remaining pre-ovulation days are labeled follicular, while noting that the follicular phase biologically begins on cycle day one.
Good to know
Leave room for real life
“Four phases” is a useful teaching shorthand, not four clean boxes. Menstruation overlaps with the follicular phase, ovulation is a brief event, and phase length varies between people and cycles.
Do not use a phase estimate to diagnose hormone levels, schedule medication, prevent pregnancy, or explain symptoms. A healthcare professional can assess concerns using your history and appropriate testing.
